Governance

CAPRi’s long-term strategy and orientation is set by a Steering Committee composed of one liaison from each of the 15 CGIAR centers participating, plus eight non-CGIAR experts in the field of collective action and property rights, and the Program Coordinator. An Executive Committee, composed of 3 CGIAR members and 2 national research institute staff from developing countries plus the CAPRi coordinator, makes decisions in support of the overall priorities set by the Steering Committee, e.g. identifying critical gaps in research on CAPRi, commissioning of concept or methodology papers, developing a plan for participation in training activities, and selecting topics for mini-workshops. The Executive Committee meets face to face once a year with email discussions throughout the year as issues arise.

Membership

Membership is defined to include all researchers at CGIAR centers or collaborating institutions who are involved in property rights and/or collective action research.  CAPRi does not seek to compete with general professional associations and other research bodies dealing with property rights and/or collective action issues (e.g. the International Association for the Study of the Commons). Rather, the CAPRi program is oriented toward the mission of the CGIAR (which includes partnership with national research institutes in developing countries, as well as with centers of excellence around the world.)
