Together with the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore (ISEC), the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (UAS) and the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, Hyderabad (ICRISAT) CAPRi successfully organized a training course on Natural Resource Management and Institutions: The Links Between Property Rights, Collective Action and Natural Resource Management at the ICRISAT Campus, Hyderabad, India from 7 to 11 February 2005.
Participants from Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran and Mongolia who work for research institutes, universities, NGOs or government were given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with collective action and property rights issues in agricultural development. The focus was on natural resource management applications, and practical applications of how collective action and property rights institutions can be strengthened through policies and projects.
The course used an interdisciplinary approach, with a combination of theoretical materials; interactive examples and case studies from South Asia to illustrate the applications of the theoretical materials, working group discussions, and a field trip to see the relevance of collective action and property rights in practice.
